Residency Health Insurance Rules by Age

All İkamet Applicants

When applying for a stay longer than 90 days, getting local Turkish health insurance is mandatory—but the rules change completely depending on your age:

Adults (Ages 18 – 65): You must buy a local policy from a licensed Turkish insurance company covering the exact duration of your requested residence permit. We help you source these highly affordable policies locally.

Children (Under 18): Required to have basic coverage, which is very inexpensive.

Seniors (Ages 65 and Older): You are **legally exempt from the mandatory local insurance rule! The Turkish government does not force you to buy a local policy, though you remain personally responsible for your own out-of-pocket medical costs at local hospitals.
